Replacing fluorescent tubes with LED tubes in the production of Tecan

The Challenge

As a leading provider of laboratory and life science technology, Tecan maintains the highest standards of reliability, light quality, and energy efficiency. The existing T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes caused high energy costs, required frequent maintenance, and no longer represented a sustainable lighting solution for the production halls.

The Solution – LED Retrofit with GLT LED TUBE

Tecan chose German LED Tech because the company’s philosophy of efficiency, sustainability, and uncompromising quality aligns perfectly with Tecan’s requirements. A total of 4,800 old T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes were replaced with GLT LED TUBES “Made in Germany” in a 1:1 retrofit process in accordance with IEC/EN 62776, carried out during ongoing production.

The existing luminaires were converted according to EN standards, and the old ballasts were removed. The LED driver is fully integrated into the GLT LED TUBE, allowing non-electrical personnel to easily replace the light source in the future.

Maintenance costs are reduced to an absolute minimum, supported by the exceptionally long service life of up to 130,000 hours. The new LED lighting system meets all technical standards and legal requirements for quality, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Thanks to the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) of the GLT TUBE, all environmental impacts of the lighting can be transparently measured and documented.
