Replacing fluorescent tubes with LED tubes at rlc Packaging, Rüdersdorf

Following the positive results of a one-year test phase on a production line, the rlc Packaging Group decided to convert its entire Rüdersdorf facility to GLT LED TUBES “Made in Germany”. The LED retrofit was carried out gradually and during ongoing production by the company’s in-house electrical team. In addition to significant energy savings, the retrofit also led to minimised maintenance costs.

The Challenge

The production areas at the Rüdersdorf site were previously illuminated with outdated T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes. These caused high energy costs, frequent maintenance and no longer met the requirements of modern, efficient and sustainable industrial lighting.

The Solution – LED Retrofit with GLT LED TUBE

After a one-year test phase on a production line, a total of 1,520 old T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes were replaced with GLT LED TUBES in a 1:1 retrofit process according to IEC/EN 62776, carried out by the company’s own electrical department during ongoing operations. The existing luminaires were converted according to EN standards, and the old ballasts were removed. The LED driver is fully integrated into the GLT LED TUBE, allowing non-electrical personnel to easily replace the light source in the future.

Maintenance costs are reduced to a minimum, supported by the exceptionally long service life of up to 130,000 hours. The new LED lighting system meets all technical standards and legal requirements for quality, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Thanks to the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) of the GLT TUBE, all environmental impacts of the lighting can be transparently measured and documented.
