The Challenge

The previous T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes and outdated high-bay luminaires in sales areas caused high energy costs and required frequent maintenance. JUMBO needed a lighting solution that would save electricity, support sustainability, future-proof its store lighting, and ensure optimal product visibility.

The Solution – LED Retrofit with GLT LED TUBE and GLT LED High Bay

A total of 14,000 outdated T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes were replaced 1:1 with GLT LED TUBES according to IEC/EN 62776, while 3,700 HQL lamps were upgraded to GLT LED High Bays — all during ongoing operations.

For the retrofit, the existing luminaires and mounting systems were converted according to EN standards and old ballasts were removed. The LED driver is fully integrated into the GLT LED TUBE, allowing even non-electricians to easily replace the lamps. Maintenance costs are reduced to an absolute minimum, supported by the exceptionally long service life of up to 130,000 hours.

The new LED lighting meets all technical standards and legal requirements for quality, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Thanks to the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) of the GLT LED TUBE, all environmental impacts of the lighting system can be transparently measured and documented.
