LED tube retrofit at ICA Viksäng

The Challenge

The existing lighting in the parking areas and store at ICA Viksäng was technically outdated, inefficient, and caused high energy costs as well as frequent maintenance work.In addition, a lighting solution was needed that was economical, sustainable, and food-safe (IFS-compliant).

The Solution – LED Retrofit with GLT LED TUBE

A total of 500 outdated T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes at the ICA store in Viksäng were replaced 1:1 with GLT LED TUBES during ongoing operations, fully compliant with IEC/EN 62776. The project was financed through the GLT Rent light-as-a-service model – providing modern, energy-efficient LED lighting without any upfront investment or capital commitment.

All existing luminaires and mounting systems were converted according to EN standards and old ballasts removed. The LED driver is fully integrated into every GLT LED TUBE, enabling staff without electrical training to replace the lamp safely and easily. Maintenance costs drop to an absolute minimum, supported by a service life of up to 130,000 hours.

The new LED lighting meets all technical standards and legal requirements for quality, energy efficiency, and sustainability. With the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) of the GLT LED TUBE, all environmental impacts can be documented transparently.
