Conversion from fluorescent to LED tubes at Bygma AB, Sweden

The Challenge

Bygma’s hardware stores faced high energy costs and significant maintenance demands due to outdated T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes. The new solution had to meet strict EU sustainability and recycling requirements – while maintaining excellent light quality, economic efficiency, and ease of maintenance.

The Solution – LED Retrofit with the GLT LED TUBE

A total of 3,000 outdated T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes were replaced 1:1 with GLT LED TUBES during ongoing operations, fully compliant with IEC/EN 62776. 

All existing luminaires and mounting systems were converted according to EN standards, old ballasts were removed, and the LED driver is fully integrated into the GLT LED TUBE. This allows staff without electrical training to replace lamps independently. Maintenance costs drop to a minimum – supported by the tube’s exceptionally long service life of up to 130,000 hours.

The new LED lighting meets all technical standards and legal requirements for quality, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Thanks to the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), all environmental impacts can be documented transparently.
